The Heyward House in Hardeeville is said to have belonged to one of the descendants of Thomas Heyward Jr., one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

It shares the name with a museum located approximately 15 miles away in Bluffton that is also called the Heyward House. The Hardeeville home is available for free to someone that can relocate it to another property. There is also another non-historic house next to the main Heyward House that is also available to move.
