Developers will pay you $10,000 to remove the Loring-McMartin (also referred to as the Vermeulen house) from a Kalamazoo historic site. The approximately 704 sq. ft. Greek Revival structure was built in the 1840s and later expanded to 1296 sq. ft. The structure is 1 ½ stories of painted brick. For the past 150 years, the building has been occupied mostly by the same family. The last resident left in 2016.
DNS Stadium Drive LLC is the owner and developer of this Kalamazoo site. A Kalamazoo firm, Miller Johnson, represents the developer. In October 2017, DNS Stadium Drive bought the house and an approximately 17-acre tract of land for $2.5 million.
In order to access a road, the moving route goes up a hill. Traffic lights and other obstacles might have to be temporarily removed to allow the house to move along this road. The $10,000 will be applied toward these moving costs. Depending on location, the moving costs could quadruple this amount. The Loring-McMartin farmhouse is located at 2231 S Drake Road, the southeast corner of Stadium Drive and Drake Road. The house is on a site that is adjacent to and just north of the Asylum Lake Preserve. Some of the amenities of the preserve includes Asylum Lake and pedestrian trails. The house will likely be available until August 2019 as submission for site plan approval is estimated to occur around late spring or early summer of this year.
