This huge house has 12 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms in a three-story structure. The house was built by the Van Eps family in 1912 with the help of local architect, John D. Howard.
The building features a brick fireplace and radiant heaters. There is a grand main entrance, a wooden staircase and other wood details, some windows have stained glass, and the dining room features an original mural. The kitchen has new appliances with a separate pantry. The numerous rooms and bathrooms were added by Southeastern Behavioral Health to use for rehabilitation of patients. This organization has retained salvage rights if the property is razed, instead of being moved.
A $10,000 allowance is being offered to move the property. One estimate for moving this house seven blocks was between $60,000 and $70,000. Costs for land, foundation, and construction are extra. Interested parties will need to submit a proposal including proof of funds of $100,000 or more. This house will be available until early summer. There is an open house scheduled on Sunday, April 6, 2008 from 3 to 5 p. m. It is located on 334 W 8th Street (8th Street and Minnesota Avenue).
